The ATS is awarding Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points for select Postgraduate Courses and Scientific Symposia presented at the ATS 2024 International Conference.

For those sessions accepted for the MOC module, the following is important information about additional responsibilities required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Chairs and speakers of those courses and symposia included in the MOC module will need to complete a few additional tasks to ensure the sessions’ eligibility.  These include:

  1. The preparation of questions
    • Number of questions:
    • Postgraduate Courses: 10-12 questions
    • Scientific Symposia: 4-6 questions
    • Questions are based on course or symposium content
    • Questions are generally written by individual speakers and reviewed/submitted by the chair
    • Must be written using the ABIM guidelines
    • Each question must have a rationale and references
    • True/False questions are not permitted
    • Negatively-phrased questions should be avoided
  2. Peer Review of Questions
    • Questions will undergo peer review
    • Feedback will be sent back to the course or symposium Chair
    • Questions will need to be updated based on peer reviewers feedback and resubmitted
  3. At the Session
    • The final version of the questions needs to be incorporated into slide presentation sets
    • Audience response technology (ARS) will be available during the session
    • Time for the audience poll of the questions must be included within the session duration
  4. Orientation Conference Call
    • It is strongly suggested that the chairs of chosen courses or symposia participate in an orientation conference call for further instruction
    • Date of the call to be determined
