ATS 2020 Advance Program

• integrate evidence-based treatment options for managing breathlessness into clinical practice and improve patient quality of life. This workshop will provide an update of how to assess and measure breathlessness in clinical and research practice. Particular focus will be given to the interaction between breathlessness and psychological well-being. An overview of a conceptual framework for breathlessness, the ‘Thinking, Breathing, Functioning’ model, will be provided. Participants will learn about new advances into mechanisms behind sensory perception of breathlessness using neuroimaging and the potential implications for how we manage breathlessness. Lastly, an overview of the latest pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments will be discussed. Chairing: C.M. Garvey, FNP, MSN, MPH, San Francisco, CA R.A.
