Fellows Track Symposium Pillar Chair Position(s) Application Now Closed

The ATS is calling on all ATS members interested in serving as a course Pillar Chair for the ATS Fellows Track Symposium (FTS) program to self-nominate on or before November 30, 2017. The ATS is looking to fill the following three FTS Pillar Chair positions:

  • Pulmonary Pillar Chair (Adult Track)
  • Critical Care Pillar Chair (Adult Track)
  • Sleep Pillar Chair (Adult Track)

Deborah Shure, MD, and James Chmiel, MD, will remain as the adult and pediatric track FTS Course Chairs, respectively. The ATS FTS program is a two-day educational course held on the Friday and Saturday prior to the ATS International Conference. The FTS course provides pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine fellows (adult and pediatric) with baseline education as it relates to topics to the Society’s three pillars.

FTS Pillar Job Description
The Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Pillar Chair positions must:

  • Serve as a Pillar Chair for at least five years
  • Serve on the FTS Planning Group to develop educational programming and curriculum design
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the FTS Course Chairs as it relates to faculty selections and agenda / topic development
  • Assist with the ATS Audience Response System (ARS) process and work closely with FTS faculty to develop pre-and-posttest questions, course evaluations, surveys and feedback reports
  • Participate in 3 or more planning calls and answer emails about the course in a timely fashion
  • Be available Friday and Saturday prior to the ATS to moderate half-day FTS sessions (i.e., introduce faculty, meet-and-greet with fellows, serve as the point of contact for the FTS program)
  • Be clear of COI issues and present a professional demeanor that reflects the ATS mission and goals

  • A personal statement detailing why you are applying and what you will bring to this position (note: please be sure to indicate which pillar chair position you are applying for)
  • A letter of recommendation from a professional colleague (must be an ATS member).  Letter should highlight why you should be considered for this role
  • An up-to-date CV or resume

Selection Process
A FTS Pillar Chair Working Group has been assembled and will be tasked with reviewing all applicant packets and making final selections. Final Pillar Chair selections are to be made on December 18. 2017.
