The American Thoracic Society’s International Conference is one of the largest gatherings of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine professionals in the world. For those starting their careers or have recently transitioned to a career in pulmonary, critical care or sleep, the International Conference is a great opportunity to learn more about the field.
The following are some ways the ATS supports fellows and junior professionals:

  • Road Map for Fellows and Junior Professionals – the Road Map is a pocket booklet that highlights core sessions that fellows and junior professionals may be interested in.  It was developed in an effort to make navigating the conference easier for first-time attendees as well as maximize the overall experience.

  • Center for Fellows and Junior Professionals (CFJP) - The CFJP is a networking and career development forum for physicians and other healthcare and research professionals who are in training or have transitioned in their careers.  The CFJP hosts a variety of workshops specifically geared on tackling such topics as how to get a job, mentoring and negotiating a contract.

  • Fellow and Junior Professional Exchange – The Exchange is a welcome event for residents, fellows, post docs and other junior professionals and takes place on Saturday following the Opening Ceremony. This one-hour event allows attendees to network and mingle with peers as well as provides information at the start of the conference. This event includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

  • Travel Awards for Training Professionals - Each year the ATS offers several travel award programs that are specifically developed to bring fellows and younger professionals to the International Conference. The ATS offers the Minority Trainee Travel Award, the Resident Travel Award, the International Trainee Travel Award and the Assembly Career Development Awards.

  • 2012 Fellows Track Symposium - The ATS is pleased to announce the availability of the ATS Fellows Symposium (FTS) at the 2012 International Conference in San Francisco. This program will allow fellows to attend a two-day course designed to cover cutting-edge topics in the field of respiratory medicine.

  • Career Development Symposium - The Evolution of Academic Medicine - was developed by the Members In Transition and Training Committee This symposium aims to equip audience members with practical tools that will enhance the likelihood of achieving academic success by providing fundamental lessons-learned and advice from successful academicians.

  • Fellows Case Conference - The 2012 fellows case conference will consist of unique cases presented and discussed by fellows with a panel of clinical experts to moderate the discussions and provide commentary. Selected cases will include clear clinical, radiographic, and pathologic findings. The discussion will yield important teaching for both fellows and seasoned clinicians.
